The PTO App — Privacy Policy
The short version: we collect what the app needs to run your PTO — your account, the things you post, and (if your PTO takes donations) payment records handled by Stripe. We use a little pseudonymous analytics and crash reporting to keep the app working. We don't run ads, we don't sell your information, and you can delete your account and data. Below is the detail.
Who this covers
This policy is for The PTO App mobile app (iOS and Android). The PTO App is a product of WarpedEDU, a DBA of Warped Technologies LLC. The separate policy for our website and its beta signup lives at theptoapp.com/privacy.
What we collect
- Your account. Your name and email address, and an optional profile photo. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from them — nothing more.
- Your school & role. The school you join and whether you're an administrator, teacher, or member.
- What you create. Content you add in the app — announcements, events and RSVPs, volunteer sign-ups, fundraisers, chat messages, wishlist items and claims, survey responses, newsletters, and resources you share.
- Donations. If your PTO collects donations, payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. We do keep donation records — amount, date, and the fundraiser — so your PTO can do its accounting.
- Notifications. A device push token, so we can send the notifications you turn on.
- Usage analytics. Which screens you open and a small set of key actions (for example, opening a fundraiser or RSVPing), tied to a random account identifier. We do not record your screen, capture what you type, or attach your name or email to analytics.
- Diagnostics. Crash and error reports so we can fix problems, tied to the same random account identifier — never your name or email.
- Basic technical info. Standard details like your app version and operating-system version.
How we use it
- To run the app and your PTO's activities.
- To deliver the notifications you've chosen to receive.
- To process donations through Stripe.
- To understand how the app is used and to fix bugs and improve it.
- We never sell your personal information, and we don't show third-party ads.
Who can see your information
The PTO App is a shared tool for your school community, so some information is visible to others within your school:
- PTO administrators and organizers can see information needed to run the PTO — for example, who has RSVP'd to an event, who signed up to volunteer, and donation records for their school.
- Your name and posts are visible to other members of your school as part of normal app use (announcements, chats, and so on).
Outside your school, we share personal information only with the service providers below, or if we're legally required to. We don't sell it, ever.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the app. They process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — database, sign-in, file storage, and hosting (United States).
- Stripe — donation and payment processing.
- Expo — delivery of push notifications (through Apple and Google's notification services).
- Google and Apple — if you choose to sign in with them.
- Sentry — crash and error diagnostics.
- PostHog — product analytics (United States).
- Resend — sending transactional email.
Children's privacy
The PTO App is made for adults — parents and guardians, and school and PTO volunteers and administrators. It is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. Students are not the users of the app. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email [email protected] and we'll delete it.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account and personal data at any time — from your profile inside the app, or by emailing [email protected]. When you delete your account, we remove your personal information from the app.
Some records tied to money — donation receipts, for example — may be kept longer where the law requires (for tax and accounting), and are also held by your PTO and by Stripe.
Security
Your connection to the app is encrypted (HTTPS). Each school's data is isolated by access controls, passwords are stored hashed (never in plain text), and we limit who on our team can access data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Your choices
- Turn notification categories on or off in the app's settings.
- View and edit your profile in the app.
- Delete your account and data (see above).
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update this page, change the effective date, and let you know in the app or by email.
